Auburn football fans are expecting one more quarterback to join the team via the transfer portal after Hugh Freeze flipped Lipscomb Academy signal-caller Hank Brown from Liberty — though many of the top names are already signed elsewhere.

Another quarterback just transferred, and he is an even bigger name than the likes of previous portal entries like NC State’s Devin Leary (now with Kentucky), Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall, Wisconsin’s Graham Mertz (now with Florida): Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman.

Hartman, who eclipsed 4,200 passing yards in 2021, is trending to Notre Dame, but that didn’t stop Auburn football fans from clamoring for his transfer to the Plains:

For those hoping Hugh Freeze and co. will land one of the top arms in the transfer portal, you may need to temper your expectations a bit. With Grayson McCall’s major not at Auburn University, and the Tigers not in on Luke Altmyer, Brennan Armstrong, or Malik Hornsby as of now, the most likely addition to the quarterback room is Oklahoma State QB Spencer Sanders.

Freeze will be competing with another former Ole Miss head coach, Lane Kiffin, for the former Cowboys signal-caller. Oh how sweet it’d be to beat the man we all thought would be the next Auburn head coach in yet another recruiting battle this offseason.
