In the weeks immediately following Auburn football’s successful early national signing day, it seems that high school recruiting has been moved to the backburner in favor of transfer recruiting for the time being.

When he first arrived on the Plains, new head coach Hugh Freeze made a point to say that the Tigers will lean on the transfer portal in year one to add talent and depth while Freeze gets into the groove of high school recruiting. Even so, Freeze has already managed to rocket the 2023 class from the 50’s to a top 20 class on early signing day, clearly having success in the high school realm.

Earlier this week, the Auburn football program hosted a multitude of transfer linemen, one of the most important positions to recruit for the Tigers in this cycle. Today, it was confirmed that veteran wide receiver Jamari Thrash is on campus for a visit.

Thrash entered the portal just yesterday, announcing his intention to transfer out of Georgia State after four seasons. He originally signed with Georgia State as a member of their 2019 class as a 3-star wide receiver.

In four seasons playing for the Panthers, Thrash racked up 104 receptions for 1,752 yards and 12 touchdowns. He led the team in receptions in both 2021 and 2022, with this past season being his best one yet, totaling 61 catches for 1,122 yards and seven touchdowns.

Newly hired wide receivers coach Marcus Davis will be looking to turn around a position group that has been less than stellar for the past two seasons. While the group did show improvement in 2022, the Tigers have been without a go-to receiver for awhile now. With four years of experience and an obvious talent, Jamari Thrash would be a great addition to the wide receivers room and could make an immediate impact on the offense in 2023.
