The Auburn football program turned over a new leaf with the hiring of head coach Hugh Freeze in December. Since his arrival on the Plains, Freeze and the rest of his coaches have been tearing it up on the recruiting trail to revive the Tigers’ recruiting class of 2023.
So far, the Tigers have locked in 10 transfers and 20 signees, earning them the #19 overall recruiting class in the country and the #3 transfer class in this cycle, which is leaps and bounds from where the group was when Bryan Harsin was leading the charge.
After working hard to secure a strong 2023 class, one that may still not be fully complete, the Tigers’ coaching staff is already looking ahead to 2024. Quarterback Adrian Posse and cornerback A’Mon Lane are the only two commits in that class so far, but the offers are going out to recruits around the country.
Just this morning, 2024 wide receiver Perry Thompson, who committed to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide on Friday during a visit to Tuscaloosa, announced on Twitter that he has officially received an offer from Auburn football:
According to AL.com, the 4-star WR made a statement his sophomore year, racking up 53 catches for 661 yards and five touchdowns in addition to two interceptions. He also participates in field and track at his high school.
Even after becoming the first commit in the Tide’s recruiting class of 2024, Thompson is considering the offer from Auburn football and will visit the Plains this weekend. There’s a long way to go before 2024 recruitment is finished, and anything could happen between now and December. Getting the Alabama native on campus this early and after he has committed is a big deal for Hugh Freeze and the Tigers.
