This weekend, Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze will host his first big recruiting event on the Plains in Junior Day. Prospects from all over the southeast will converge on campus this weekend to get to know Coach Freeze and the new Auburn staff.
So far, over 25 recruits have confirmed that they will be on campus this weekend, primarily from Alabama and Georgia, though a few from Florida, Mississippi, and Tennessee are also on the list. Several attendees are already committed to other programs, but have not yet had the chance to experience Auburn football under the new coaching staff.
On the visitor list for this weekend is 4-star Cameron Coleman, a wide receiver from Phenix City, which is just minutes down the road from Auburn. Ranked as the #35 wide receiver in the class of 2024 and the #14 recruit out of the state of Alabama, Coleman was originally recruited by Ike Hilliard and was quickly re-offered by Marcus Davis once he took the position.
Though he hasn’t yet met Davis, they spoke right after the offer was re-extended earlier this month, per Auburn Live:
"“He was a pretty good guy to talk to,” Coleman said. “I’m ready to build a relationship with him, even outside of football. He wants to play basketball with me. I told him I play basketball and he said he wants to play me one-on-one. He was telling me he’s one of the youngest coaches in college football. That’s a great accomplishment.”"
So far, Coleman has taken four recruiting visits, all unofficial: two to Auburn, one to Florida State, and one to Texas A&M. Though it is still pretty early in the wide receiver’s recruitment, Coleman is feeling the love from the Tigers and feels as though he is a priority for Marcus Davis and the rest of the staff.
