This weekend, the Auburn football program hosted a Junior Day that saw athletes from a variety of recruiting classes descend on the Plains to check out the brand-new facilities and meet with the new coaching staff, led by head coach Hugh Freeze. While recruits from all over the country visited this weekend, a large number of area and in-state recruits were present as well.
One of the in-state recruits in attendance earned an offer from Auburn football while on campus. D’Angelo Barber, a linebacker out of Pinson, Alabama, who plays at Clay-Chalkville has now secured offers from both Iron Bowl teams. The 2024 recruit is not ranked by either 247 Sports or the On3 Database but racked up 115 tackles, two sacks, four forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries during the 2022 season.
Barber has offers from Louisville, Georgia State, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Buffalo, UAB, and Tuskeegee, among others. He earned his offer from Alabama during the Tide’s Junior Day earlier this month and added Auburn football to the list this weekend.
According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, Barber says that both Auburn and Alabama are sitting at the top of his list right now, alongside Gus Malzahn’s UCF Knights. The linebacker also noted that he could see himself fitting into new defensive coordinator Ron Roberts’ schemes.
As Barber’s recruitment continues and he gets another season of high school ball under his belt, there is no doubt that more schools will begin to take notice of the in-state linebacker. Auburn football is definitely getting in on the ground floor and will be a strong contender for D’Angelo Barber.
