Today is February 1, and that means that National Signing Day has arrived in the world of college football. The Auburn football program signed 20 prospects back in December on Early National Signing Day, which has taken a lot of the attention from National Signing Day in the past few years.
While there may potentially be some surprises for the Tigers, there is one athlete that Hugh Freeze and the coaching staff will be signing for certain, and that is 4-star running back Jeremiah Cobb. The Montgomery Catholic RB is ranked as the #215 overall prospect and the #11 running back in the recruiting class of 2023. He is the #16 player and the #1 running back out of the state of Alabama.
Cobb committed to the Tigers when Bryan Harsin was still firmly in charge, back in July of 2022. He took multiple visits to the Plains during his recruitment, before and after he committed to the Tigers. Even through the tumultuous coaching change, Cobb remained firm in his pledge to Auburn football.
The running back did not sign during the early signing period because his high school does not allow students to graduate early, per AL.com, and all Montgomery Catholic signees will have a ceremony today.
According to Cobb’s 247 Sports recruiting profile, he was a three-year starter for the Knights, and during his four-year career he totaled over 6,320 rushing yards and a whopping 88 touchdowns. At the end of the 2022 season, Cobb totaled 1,769 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns in addition to 377 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.
With Tank Bigsby on his way to the NFL, Cobb will join a running back room featuring Jarquez Hunter, Damari Alston, and incoming USF transfer Brian Battie. Though Hunter is certainly expected to be RB1, there’s no doubt that Cobb will have the opportunity to compete with his fellow backs for early playing time on the Plains.
