Lane Kiffin got duped by a deepfake of Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze wearing a sweatshirt with the SEC letters replaced by WAP in the conference’s trademark font shared by a Tiger fan on Twitter.
Of course, WAP was a song by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion with an acronym that stands for…well…Google it. That had Kiffin on high alert and ready to call out the first-year AU head coach on social media.
Do you know what that stands for pal?? Might want to ask @iamcardib 🤦♂️ @CoachHughFreeze 🙄 https://t.co/I6Dh80jO2L

Auburn football fans weren’t letting Kiffin off the hook after accusing Freeze of something he didn’t do — of course assuming he was being serious and not just driving attention to the Lane Kiffin brand:
Do you know that was a fake picture paaaalllllll?? Might want to ask @BunkiePerkins 🤦♂️ pic.twitter.com/Vac7MmnAWb

What a shame for a coach, like Kiffin to RT a photoshopped image. Do better @Lane_Kiffin, just do better! https://t.co/QH9LQBcIxy

Lane, once known for his eternal youth, has entered boomer coach territory by falling for photoshopped social media posts. Next step is he becomes more active on Facebook. https://t.co/tzTMWcNObC

Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze’s wardrobe effective on the recruiting trail
No, Freeze never donned a sweatshirt with WAP on it. He did, however, sport the On To Victory NIL collective symbol during recruiting visits to boost the team’s leverage in NIL negotiations with recruits.
Freeze cannot speak about NIL on those visits, but he pushed recruits in the direction of where they can. Those are the little things coaches must focus on in this highly incentivized era of college football recruiting.
