An alleged Auburn football fan logged into the Auburn Live forums during the opening hour of Valentines Day and shared hate, not the holiday-mandated feeling of love, towards one of the most distinguished athletes to ever done the orange and blue: Cam Newton.
Newton caught a stray from a supposed Tiger fan who believes his statue in front of Jordan-Hare Stadium should be torn down because of his recent appearance on Alycia Baumgardner’s podcast on February 14.
Here was the unhinged post, which also wraps in Bruce Pearl, on On3’s forum:
#Auburn should tear down the Cam Newton statute!

Auburn football fans cannot fathom Cam Newton statue proposal
Predictably, Auburn fans flocked to this Message Board Geniuses Twitter post to flame the premise and question what goes on in the deep dark corners of college football forums during the February dead period:
AuburnTitan would get his house tour down by other auburn fans before we took Cam’s statue down

When it comes to Newton’s place in Auburn football history, it’s undeniable. In just one season, Newton doubled the number of claimed national titles for the program and added another Heisman winner to AU’s lineage.
While there has been a shift in recent history towards tearing down monuments, a program proud of its greatest achievements wouldn’t consider such a move in a million years — and evidently (and obviously) fans wouldn’t be happy if it was ever in consideration.
