The Auburn football program has always taken pride in its running backs. Though the Tigers will be losing star Tank Bigsby to the 2023 NFL Draft this year, a combination of returning players and new faces are ready to keep things rolling.
Jarquez Hunter is widely expected to lead the running backs room this year, with help from incoming USF transfer Brian Battie. Damair Alston will be gearing up for his second year on the Plains, and 4-star signee Jeremiah Cobb will be waiting in the wings.
Meanwhile, which 2024 running backs could come in next year and make a difference for the Tigers? The staff, but primarily RB coach Cadillac Williams, seems to be prioritizing two prospects at the moment in J’Marion Burnette and Daniel Hill.
Burnette, a 4-star prospect from Andalusia, AL, has made quite a few trips to the Plains and was most recently on campus for the Tigers’ Junior Day. He is ranked as the #164 overall prospect and the #11 running back in the recruiting class of 2024. He is the #11 recruit in the state of Alabama, and has received attention from Georgia and Alabama, among others, but is expected to choose Auburn football.
Daniel Hill is a 4-star prospect from Meridian, MS, not too far from the hometown of Jarquez Hunter. He is ranked as the #161 overall prospect and the #12 ATH in the recruiting class of 2024 and is the #2 recruit out of Mississippi. He is being recruited by various schools for multiple positions, including ATH and linebacker, but the Tigers want Hill as a running back.
At the moment, Hill seems to be an Alabama lean, and has visited Tuscaloosa a total of seven times according to the On3 Recruiting Database. However, Hill was named by Auburn football quarterback commit Walker White as one of the recruits he wants to play with on the Plains, and who doesn’t want to hear out Cadillac Williams?
