On the first day of Auburn football spring practice, AL.com’s Joseph Goodman shared a photo currently hanging in the Woltosz Football Performance Center memorializing one of the unforgettable moments of the 2022 season.

The shot was of Tank Bigsby during a 39-yard run against Texas A&M back on November 12, 2022, in a game the Tigers won 13-10. In the background is a visibly excited Carnell “Cadillac” Williams, who was coaching his first game as head coach in Jordan-Hare Stadium — the very home stadium he became an AU legend and became a future NFL draft pick in.

Goodman said he’d never forget the important SEC moment in a tweet:

The most important lesson of the 2022 Auburn football season

There were far more lows than highs during the 2022 Auburn football season. That much was evident by the 5-7 record overall and 2-6 record in-conference. But despite the lows, the highs of the season embodied what Auburn means to the national narrative.

Even when the Tigers were playing another SEC West team at the bottom of the standings, Auburn had the eyes of the college football world. And even though it featured a team with a losing record, the 2022 Iron Bowl was still the second most-watched game of the season.

Unlike a program like Colorado that needs someone like Deion Sanders to be relevant, Auburn has the attention of the college football world no matter what. The downs of the 2022 season would be highs for most programs in the nation.

While Hugh Freeze could lead AU back to the glory it once knew, last season will always have a place in the hearts of sentimental Tiger fans.
