Former Auburn football players seem to frequently find themselves becoming coaches. Take the Tigers’ current coaching staff, for instance. Associate head coach and running backs coach Cadillac Williams, secondary coach Zac Etheridge, wide receivers coach Marcus Davis, and director of football and recruiting relations Trovon Reed all suited up in orange and blue at one time.

Rodney Garner is coaching at Tennessee, Dameyune Craig is at Texas A&M, Travis Williams is at Arkansas, Dell McGee is at Georgia, and Travaris Robinson is at Alabama, to name a few who are not currently employed by their alma mater. Meanwhile, Kodi Burns, Tracy Rocker, and Joe Whitt Jr. are coaching up players in the NFL.

Not to mention the slew of former players that former Tigers’ coach Gus Malzahn has put to work on his staff at UCF. The latest former Auburn football player to join up with the Knights is former running back Kam Martin, who will coach the running backs at UCF.

Martin signed with the Auburn football program as a member of the 2016 class under Malzahn. He was a 4-star prospect out of high school, ranked as the #44 recruit out of the state of Texas and the #7 all purpose back in the recruiting class of 2016.

The running back played 10 games as a true freshman on the Plains, and played every game in 2017 as the reserve tailback. In 2018 he rotated as a starter, and finished up his Auburn career in 2019. Over his four years in orange and blue, Martin racked up 1,564 yards on 282 carries and eight touchdowns in addition to 18 receptions for 193 yards and one touchdown.

Martin has coached at various programs prior to taking on this role at UCF, including Incarnate Word, Texas State, and a prior stint at UCF. The Knights will play their first season in the Big 12 Conference this fall.
