When does March Madness Start? Date for men’s and women’s tournaments, NIT

It’s the first day of March, which means that the NCAA tournaments and the start of March Madness is just around the corner. So get your brackets ready and learn all the important dates for the 2023 men’s, women’s, and NIT tournaments.

First up is the men’s tournament, which will begin with Selection Sunday on March 12. The First Four games will be played in Dayton, Ohio, while the first and second rounds will be played in Birmingham, AL; Des Moines, IA; Orlando, FL; Albany, NY; Columbus, OH; Sacramento, CA; Greensboro, NC; and Denver, CO.

The west regional will be held in Las Vegas, NV; the east regional will be in New York, NY; the south regional will be in Louisville, KY; and the midwest regional will be in Kansas City, MO. The Final Four and Championship games will be played in Houston, TX. The schedule is as follows:

  • First Four: March 14-15
  • First round: March 16-17
  • Second round: March 18-19
  • Sweet 16: March 23-24
  • Elite Eight: March 25-26
  • Final Four: April 1
  • NCAA championship game: April 3

Next up is the women’s tournament, which will also hold Selection Sunday on March 12. The top 16 seeds will host the First Four, first, and second round games. The Sweet 16 and Elite 8 will be held in Seattle, WA and Greenville, SC. The Final Four and Championship games will be held in Dallas, TX. The schedule is as follows:

  • First Four: March 15-16
  • First round: March 17-18
  • Second round: March 19-20
  • Sweet 16: March 24-25
  • Elite 8: March 26-27
  • The Final Four: March 31
  • NCAA championship game: April 2

Last up is the NIT tournament, whose participants will also be decided on Selection Sunday on March 12. First and second rounds as well as the quarterfinal games will all be hosted on campus sites, and the semifinals and championship game will be held at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The schedule is as follows:

  • First-round: March 14-15
  • Second-round: March 18-19
  • Quarterfinals: March 21-22
  • Semifinals: March 28
  • NIT championship game: March 30
