Caylin Newton, the younger brother of Auburn football legend Cam Newton, recently caught passes from the 2010 Heisman winner and BCS National Championship brother at AU’s pro day on March 21. That followed the tradition of the Newton family’s connection at Auburn’s pro day after Cam took snaps from his older brother Cecil, a former NFL center himself.

The only shoutout to that Newton family connection came from the crew of The 4 Man Rush, which is a Panthers-centric NFL podcast. Caylin shouted out The 4 Man Rush via Twitter:

As Caylin Newton told the AP, Cam Newton throwing to his younger brother — a former Tigers receiver who started out at Howard and also played for William and Mary — was the Auburn football legend showing love.

“This was him showing love to me,” Caylin said. “He doesn’t owe anybody anything. He has had an amazing journey, an amazing career in the NFL. He has nothing to prove to anybody. He came to show his ability, show he still has it.”

Caylin also endorsed the 11-year NFL veteran, calling Cam someone who can still contribute and continuing to say that the quarterback’s appearance at Auburn’s pro day was not to boost himself in any way.

“I think, for him, this was a selfless act,” Caylin said. “But it was also to show and prove to everybody he’s not sitting around. He’s still got it. Whatever organization wants to get a winning quarterback, his number’s still open and available.”

Caylin knows that the world knows what he can do on the field and what he says on social media, but the youngest Newton said he, unlike most everyone else, knows the real Cam.

“They don’t see the grit,” Caylin said. “They don’t see how many hours he puts in. So the media has what they say about who he is. I know who he is. And anywhere he’s been, they know who he is, too.”
