FanSided’s Michael DeRosa came up with three teams that should give Auburn football legend Cam Newton a chance to prove he still has what it takes to be a quarterback at the NFL level, and easily the most notable choice was the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Of course, with Patrick Mahomes under center in KC having already achieved a pair of both NFL MVPs and Super Bowl trophies in tow, Newton wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of starting for the Chiefs.

Still, DeRosa believes the arrangement can work because of Kansas City’s lack of a backup option due to Chad Henne’s retirement and the potential desire for Newton to add a ring to his trophy case.

“Although the Chiefs adding Newton would not be a game-changing signing, it would give them some much-needed insurance at QB if Mahomes suffers any injuries during the year,” DeRosa wrote. “With that, it would not hurt to have another veteran in their locker room to help mentor their younger players. Lastly, although Newton likely wants to be a starter, it also seems possible that he wouldn’t mind being a backup on an elite team like the Chiefs. After all, he has yet to add a Super Bowl ring to his resume.”

Auburn football legend Cam Newton could replace fellow former MVP

Another exciting option for the Auburn football legend in free agency, according to DeRosa, could be the Ravens — who are set to deal quarterback Lamar Jackson at any moment due to a March 2 trade request.

“At the end of the day, it might not be the worst thing in the world for the Ravens to bring in Newton,” DeRosa wrote. “Out of all the available options at this point of the offseason, he is certainly among the most notable. Although he would not be a long-term option for them at QB, he could keep them afloat for the 2023 season on a one-year deal.”

Newton will likely need to settle for a backup role, but if the Ravens get desperate, Newton could keep Baltimore’s fanbase hopeful given his past successes.
