It’s baseball season, folks. The last articles that I was able to write were about basketball season, and now that we’re a week removed from that, it’s time for some Auburn baseball.

The Tigers, led by 8th year head man Butch Thompson, are coming off of one of the best five year stretches in program history. Two trips to Omaha, another trip to a Super Regional, and a promising start to the COVID-affected 2020 season.

While this season has had some frustrating moments, there’s still a ton of potential left. The record stands at 17-7-1 (all thanks to that crazy tie against USC). After being swept by Arkansas, the Diamond Boys have won 4 of 5. Let’s talk about this next week.

Auburn baseball midweek recap

The Tigers took on a reeling North Alabama team Tuesday night. UNA has struggled since the start of ASUN conference play, having been swept by both Central Arkansas and Florida Gulf Coast. The Lions have won just one series overall, sweeping Miami (OH).

The game went exactly how we’d want it to go: 14-1 run rule in the 7th.

Auburn baseball weekend

The Tigers will have their toughest test of the season this weekend when they head to Gainesville. Florida is ranked #2 in the country, and Auburn still doesn’t have Gonzo back. That is not a recipe for a series win.

We’ve seen this team win series without Joseph Gonzalez’s pitching. We’ve also seen this team get swept without his pitching. Florida will be no easy task.

Will Cannon, John Armstrong, and Tommy Vail will get the starts for the Tigers this weekend. Each have had their shares of success but have also seen some struggles. We will need good performances from them into the 6th and even 7th innings if we want to see a series win.

This series will really tell us where this Auburn team is. We’ve seen good play since the Arkansas sweep. Florida is the best team that Auburn will have played all year. Something is gonna break.

As always, War Eagle.
