Fans are chomping at the bit for the Hugh Freeze Era of Auburn football on the Plains. After two seasons that consistently fell below expectations and was wrapped up in chaos and uncertainty, Tiger fans are hoping to get the football program back on track in 2023.

This year’s spring practice was one of the most highly anticipated sessions in a few years, with many questions from the previous season still needing to be addressed. Not to mention the fact that a new coaching staff means that the players will need to learn new coaching styles and schemes to prepare for the fall.

However, we must remember that A-Day is still one of the 15 allotted sessions for Auburn football spring training, and the Tigers can’t afford to lose the day by wasting a practice. Head coach Hugh Freeze warned fans about their expectations for this Saturday’s event, per Auburn Live:

"“I want to prepare the Auburn family that we’re going to do the best we can. We’re going to give them a game that I hope they can enjoy, but understand, we don’t know who we are offensively right now.”"

Of course, this is to be expected. A new coaching staff can’t be expected to fully turn a team around or create a cohesive unit in just 15 days of practice. And remember, there is still no depth chart, and it is really still a time of assessment for the coaches ahead of the more serious fall camp.

"“Don’t expect too much. Unrealistic expectations lead to frustration.” He’s making it a point to simply set expectations for fans before Saturday’s A-Day. “I don’t want to show too much of what we think we’re going to be really good at.”"

Still, it will be an exciting time to be back in Jordan-Hare, and see how the team operates during a practice. Fans will be able to observe the coaches in action, and hopefully see some aspects of improvement from different position groups on the field this Saturday.
