The Auburn basketball team is losing several players to the transfer portal and the NBA Draft following the 2022-23 season. Wendell Green Jr. declared his intentions to pursue a professional career by way of the NBA Draft, and both Chance Westry and Yohan Traore will be entering their names in the transfer portal after one season on the Plains.

After taking a medical redshirt this season following a surgery, it was a big surprise when Westry decided to leave the Tigers. He spoke as though he was looking forward to next season with Auburn basketball, and the official social media account even posted a video featuring Westry the day before his announcement.

However, it was less of a surprise when freshman Yohan Traore announced his intentions to transfer. Traore played limited minutes in 25 games during the season, and ended with an average 2.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists.

The former 5-star prospect has heard from over 15 schools since entering his name in the portal according to a Tweet by Recruits Zone, including Alabama, LSU, and Memphis, among others. Maize N Brew’s Von Lozon believes that the former Auburn center will have a good shot at improving his game with the Michigan Wolverines:

"He didn’t have a great freshman campaign at Auburn, but perhaps a change of scenery is what Traore needs to be successful. If he were to commit to Michigan, he would surely receive more playing time than he did as a first-year college player. There are minutes to be had at the 5 with Hunter Dickinson transferring out of the program, so we’ll have to see if he gives Michigan another chance this time around."

Traore was originally a prime target for the Wolverines during his recruitment, so it’s possible that he circles back to Michigan after playing his first year with Auburn basketball.
