T.J. Finley doesn’t sound too keen on having more competition in the Tigers’ quarterback room — and if Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze does add another arm to compete for the QB1 role, Finley may not stick around on the Plains.

Finley was non-committal when asked on April 8 following Auburn’s A-Day scrimmage whether he would be return to the team in that scenario. “I’m not sure,” Finley prefaced before saying, “I’m just focusing on having a good Sunday and having a good dinner with my family.” Finley finished the scrimmage with just one completed pass for four yards.

The quarterback made it seem as though the decision will be based on who Freeze would bring in. “I won’t know until they bring one in,” Finley said. “I’ll have to have a conversation with Coach Freeze. He said it multiple times. It’s up in the air whether he wants to or not, that’s his personal decision. I’m going to compete and if I’m not the best guy — if I’m not the best guy, I’m going to compete.”

A-Day a tough means to judge Auburn football talent by

The intense weather conditions made A-Day tough to judge — at least far tougher to judge than the revised spring exhibition rules did. Rain was falling nearly nonstop during the entire game.

We were never going to see what each quarterback could do throwing the ball because of that, but we still saw more from Robby Ashford and Holden Geriner than we did from Finley. Should Finley leave the program during the upcoming transfer portal cycle, it’ll be based off the two seasons of evidence and spring practice, not from A-Day.
