The recruitment of the class of 2024 seems to be heating up for the Auburn football program. With spring practice in the rearview mirror and the transfer portal on the verge of being open once more, the focus has shifted back to recruiting.

Some athletes are already prepared to commit to programs, like Martavious Collins, a 4-star TE who will be announcing his commitment tomorrow, and others are simply cutting down their lists to a select few. This is the case for 4-star linebacker Joseph Phillips, who narrowed his list to five earlier today.

The Tuskegee native says it’s down to Auburn football, Georgia, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Clemson, via his personal Twitter:

Phillips is ranked as the #215 overall prospect and the #23 linebacker in the recruiting class of 2024 and is the #13 player out of the state of Alabama. According to the major recruiting sites like On3 and 247 Sports, the Tigers are in a great position to land the local linebacker.

For the rest of his recruitment, Phillips plans to focus on his final five and take official visits to all the programs before announcing his commitment in early August, per On3 Sports. He has previously visited each of the programs, but has been to the Plains more than anywhere else, most recently for the spring A-Day game last weekend.

When it comes to what he’s looking for in his future school, Phillips said he wants to have coaches that care about him both on and off the field, and he wants to feel a family atmosphere, both of which are things that he can find with Auburn football.

Though official visits over the summer could potentially change his mind, it’s currently looking good for the Tigers in the recruitment of 4-star linebacker Joseph Phillips.
