Auburn Daily’s Andrew Stefaniak believes Auburn football transfer portal target Kody Epps, formerly of BYU, could be a multi-year investment for the Tigers should they land the Santa Ana product.

“The talented receiver will have multiple years of eligibility left, as he didn’t play in 2021 and will get the 2020 season back due to the pandemic,” Stefaniak prefaced before saying, “So this would not be a one-year rental if the Tigers landed Epps. He would be on the Plains for at least a few seasons.”

Auburn football was among four programs to offer Epps. The other three were Colorado, Miami, and Ole Miss.

Auburn football transfer portal WR could leave void for BYU

According to Salt Lake City-based Deseret News, the loss of Epps to the BYU receiving corps could be a devastating one for the Cougars as they approach their first season at the Power Five ranks in the Big 12.

“It’s not unprecedented for a player in the portal to return to the school they were previously at,” Brandon Judd prefaced before saying, “Last week, BYU star women’s basketball forward Lauren Gustin did just that, returning to BYU after entering the portal and briefly looking at other options. If Epps ultimately leaves BYU, though, it leaves a large void at the wide receiver position for the Cougars as they enter their first season in the Big 12 Conference. Epps, too, should continue to see additional interest.”

Among the other schools interested in Epps besides AU, Deion Sanders’ Colorado, Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss, and Miami are Utah, Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.

Epps hauled in 39 receptions for 459 yards through the air and six touchdowns. Given the loss of Tar’Varish Dawson to Colorado at the slot position, there is certainly a need for the BYU receiver in the Tigers’ WR room.
