The Auburn football team has done well throughout both transfer portal windows during the offseason, adding 12 players in the first window and racking up transfers from the second window.

So far, the Tigers have brought in six transfers from the April window: QB Payton Thorne, edge Jalen McLeod, WR Caleb Burton, OL Jaden Muskrat, WR Jyaire Shorter, and LB Larry Nixon III. But it doesn’t seem like head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff are finished yet.

Caleb Burton and Jyaire Shorter are the second and third wide receiver transfers to join the Tigers over the offseason after former Cincinnati WR Nick Mardner came to the Plains in January.

It looks like Auburn football is still pushing for another wide receiver transfer to add to first-year WR Coach Marcus Davis’ position group, and that receiver could be Jackson State graduate transfer Shane Hooks.

The WR, who is from Olympia, FL, committed to Ohio in 2018 out of high school, and then transferred to Jackson State in 2020. He entered the portal again in December of 2022, and committed to Ole Miss last month. However, just one week later he reopened his recruitment, and this week he took a visit to the Plains with Auburn football.

Last season, Hooks had 64 receptions for 748 yards and 10 touchdowns. Since entering the portal, he has received offers from Arkansas, Louisville, Liberty, Mississippi State, Utah, and UCF.

Other transfers to keep an eye on include edge Isaac Ukwu and JUCO OT Markel Bell. Ukwu, a graduate transfer, visited the Plains at the end of last month, and is reportedly deciding between Auburn football, Ole Miss, and Missouri, while Bell visited more recently and is deciding between Auburn, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.

Though things were slow to start in the transfer portal, Freeze and his staff were able to pull in key impact players at multiple positions.
