Auburn football offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery offered Thompson’s star quarterback Trent Seaborn, a Class of 2027 quarterback who is graduating eighth grade, on Thursday, June 8.
Seaborn is already a legend on the Plains for having thrown 12 completions in 14 attempts for 207 yards and five touchdowns (and an interception) against Auburn High School in the 2023 Class 7A State Title game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Seaborn’s a legend for both his on-field performance and his cool-hand proclamation after the Warriors’ fourth-straight 7A championship that facing a team called the Auburn Tigers at JHS with the title on the line is “just another game.”
“It was kind of just like a regular game,” Seaborn said (h/t Opelika-Auburn News’ Adam Cole). “(I) Try to think of it just like any other game, postseason throughout the regular season. And I just pray to God before every game, and I just pray for him to give me deliverance throughout the game.”
Auburn football facing uphill climb for Trent Seaborn but could possibly sway Thompson QB
The Auburn football staff is behind the 8-ball when it comes to Seaborn due to the Thompson-to-Alabama pipeline Nick Saban has established over the years as he’s turned countless Warriors into national championships. By the time Seaborn is a senior, the Alabaster native figures to be the biggest name at his position in the state, at least. Power Five pillars beyond the Crimson Tide will be hot on the trail for a talent like Seaborn.
Luckily, over the next four years, Hugh Freeze and Co. could change the narrative and begin their own crusade to become the state’s go-to program.
With the College Football Playoff expanding and the transfer portal becoming a prominent aspect of the sport, it may not take forever for Freeze to have the Tigers playing in consequential games in December and January. As the gap continues to close between AU and Bama, it’s possible, if not likely, that East Central Alabama is where blue-chip prospects start flocking to.
Seaborn choosing Auburn would be a tell-tale sign that the Tide is turning.
