Auburn football Class of 2024 defensive back recruit A’Mon Lane out of Moody had high praise for Naples safety Kensley Faustin — telling Rivals’ Bryan Matthews that Faustin is a “dawg” and that the Tigers’ defense will need such players.

“Kensley is a dawg. That’s all I got to say. Dawg,” Lane prefaced before saying, “And we need them on our side of the ball. I’m just excited to come in and turn the program back to what it was.”

As Lane revealed, the Tigers are waiting on one more defensive back for AU to fully rep the “DBU” label.

“Eight commits now, that’s awesome,” Lane said. “It started off I was the only one and now I’ve got seven guys to back me up. DBU is looking strong. We’re waiting on one more DB.”

Auburn football has eyes on a trio of Peach State defensive back targets

If Auburn football is going to help AU get the prestigious label Lane mentioned, it could achieve that by scoring on one of the Peach State recruits the program is currently targeting. As Matthews relays, there’s a 5-star recruit and a pair of 4-stars currently on the radar of Zac Etheridge, Wesley McGriff, and Ron Roberts.

“Some of AU’s remaining top targets include 4-star cornerback Jalyn Crawford from Parkview in Kilburn, Ga., who officially visited last weekend, 5-star safety KJ Bolden from Buford (Ga.) High, who plans to officially visit AU this fall, and 4-star Jalewis Solomon from Schley County in Ellaville, Ga., who camped at AU Thursday,” Matthews reported.

Even during the Tigers’ down years the past three campaigns, the secondary was the lone bright spot. Roger McCreary, Jamien Sherwood, and Smoke Monday were all able to land NFL jobs the past three years, standing out on a defense that was oftentimes more competitive against the opposition than the offense.

It’d make sense for the secondary to be a bright spot under a rising coaching star like Etheridge and a well-traveled returning coaching veteran like McGriff. Lane, Faustin, Anniston’s Jayden Lewis, and whoever else joins the class will be in charge of helping that cause in a few years.
