The Auburn football coaching staff had a fantastic last week of recruiting. The Tigers added three more commits to their recruiting class of 2024, and momentum continues to rise around the program.
In between celebrating new commits the coaching staff is busy hosting other prospects on their visits to the Plains, including 3-star defensive lineman Malik Blocton. From Pike Road, AL, Blocton’s home is just down the road from Auburn’s campus, and his older brother Marcus Harris became a Tiger in 2021 after transferring in from Kansas.
Blocton is ranked as the #36 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2024 and is the #25 recruit out of the state of Alabama. In April, he released a Top 10 list of schools that included Auburn football and has now set his commitment date for July 8.
According to Auburn Rivals, Blocton has a long history with both head coach Hugh Freeze and defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett, so getting to know the coaching staff on the Plains was an easy task for the DL. Freeze recruited Blocton’s brother out of high school and Garrett was already recruiting Blocton while still at Liberty.
"“Coach Freeze, he recruited my brother (Marcus Harris) coming out of high school,” Blocton said. “Our whole family, we already knew Coach Freeze and I already knew Coach Garrett, so it wasn’t no big change.”"
Despite having a list of his top ten schools, Blocton insists that there are really only three programs he is actually considering: Florida, Texas, and Auburn football, with Florida and Auburn having a slight edge over the Longhorns.
Though he hasn’t committed yet, the Tigers have put themselves in a great position to land Malik Blocton, who has been a fan of the program since they started recruiting him in tenth grade. In Blocton’s own words, “No game is like an Auburn game.”
