It was a big weekend on the Plains for the Auburn football program. They hosted one of the top prospects in the nation, one who is already committed to Alabama, for an official visit, and the coaching staff is doing everything they can to flip him to the good side.
Though Perry Thompson is ranked as the #14 overall prospect and the #4 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2024 and is the #2 recruit out of the state of Alabama, he was not on the last Auburn coaching staff’s radar (surprise, surprise).
However, Thompson was one of the first offers sent out by Hugh Freeze’s coaching staff once they were installed on the Plains, and now the WR says that the Tigers have pulled even with the Tide in his recruitment, per Auburn Rivals:
"“I’ll say right there with Alabama,” Thompson said on where Auburn stands. “Just making me feel like family, the environment, the whole coaching staff, everything just feels great.”"
The Auburn football coaches pulled out all the stops for Thompson over the weekend, sitting down with the WR and going over schemes, showing him how he would fit into the offense on the Plains. His player host was incoming transfer wide receiver Nick Mardner, who reiterated the coaches’ message to Thompson: Come to Auburn and make your legacy.
Thompson also got to Facetime with current Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, who was recruited and coached by Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss. Metcalf encouraged Thompson to commit to Auburn and trust the process, per Auburn Rivals.
For Perry Thompson, a decision date is drawing closer and closer, and it’s going to come down between Alabama and Auburn football. The Foley High School star said that he would likely make a final decision about a week before his senior season begins, and let’s hope it’s a commitment to Auburn.
