The Auburn football program has rising momentum on the recruiting trail right now, with lots of big targets expected to commit in the coming days. However, the Tigers have secured a different kind of recruiting win in the latest RSVP to Big Cat Weekend.

The recruiting event, which will take place at the end of this month, is one of the most important events for the Tigers. During Big Cat Weekend, top prospects from all over gather on the Plains with their families for several days that focus on fun and games rather than the business portion of recruitment.

Earlier this week, of Auburn football’s top targets in the 2024 class, 5-star wide receiver Perry Thompson, confirmed on his personal Twitter that he will be on the Plains for Big Cat Weekend.

Thompson is ranked as the #14 overall prospect and the #4 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2024. He is the #2 recruit out of the state of Alabama. Though he has been committed to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide since June of 2022, the Tigers have begun to steadily climb in the wide receiver’s recruitment.

Following his official visit earlier this month, Thompson said that Auburn football had pulled even with Alabama, and that the Tigers were right up there with the Tide. The visit had a big impact on Thompson, who noted that the coaches and players made him feel like family and were the highlight of the trip, per Auburn Live:

"“The whole coaching staff, they are great,” he said. “They make me feel like family. (The visit) went very well. I loved it, for real. The coaches, the environment .. everybody makes me feels like family.”"

Thompson’s attendance to Big Cat Weekend is a big deal—he chose to be on the Plains rather than attend Alabama’s cookout event. Could Thompson lock in with the Tigers this month?
