The Plains visits of Auburn football 2024 defensive line recruiting target Malik Blocton out of Pike Road seemingly indicate that his commitment is “pointing to the Tigers” according to Auburn Daily’s Jack Singley — adding the fact that Blocton is the little brother of defensive tackle Marcus Harris.

“Malik Blocton is the first of these five, and Auburn fans shouldn’t have to wait long to see if the Pike Road star will choose to stay in-state,” Singley prefaced before saying, “July 8th is Bloctons decision date and it’s down to two SEC schools, at least Texas will be by Bloctons freshman season. Texas and Auburn are the final two for the six-foot-three 268-pounder. The visits seem to point to the Tigers, and with his brother Marcus Harris being a star on the Plains many view him to follow in his footsteps.”

Blocton would make for the sixth defensive recruit of a strong but thus far shallow 2024 Auburn football recruiting class, and he’d be the third addition to the defensive front alongside Booker T. Washington (Tuskegee) EDGE Joseph Phillips and recent linebacker commit D’Angelo Barber out of Clay-Chalkville.

Auburn football could use recruiting bounceback after disappointing Fourth of July

The fireworks were certainly prolific outside my window all night on July 4 (and July 5!), but unfortunately, that was not the case for Hugh Freeze and co. on the recruiting trail that day; with Central-Phenix City’s Rydarrius “Red” Morgan choosing Florida State and teammate Cameron Coleman committing to Texas A&M.

Freeze hit a snag in his recruiting efforts for the first time since being hired, having his own fireworks show canceled. Blocton represents an opportunity for the Tigers to have a bounceback while also establishing an important rapport with talent-rich Pike Road and first-year head coach Granger Shook.

Hopefully, Singley is a soothsayer and Blocton stays in the Central Alabama region so his family can watch him follow the family tradition of suiting up under the bright shining lights at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
