It’s peak season for recruiting on the Plains, and the Auburn football coaching staff is working on nailing down the class of 2024. Over the past two weeks, the Tigers have earned an additional two commits to the class in linebacker D’Angelo Barber and defensive lineman Malik Blocton.
Several of the Tigers’ top priority prospects will be making decisions later this month or in early August before their senior seasons begin, and hopefully, there will be some big surprises taking place at one of the most important recruiting events on the Plains, Big Cat Weekend.
Taking place at the end of the month following the recruiting dead period, recruits—some who are committed to other programs— will flock to campus to spend a weekend on the Plains with their families. The event is meant to be a fun weekend of bonding without all the serious recruiting business.
Earlier this summer, 4-star wide receiver Malcolm Simmons named his top group of schools, including Auburn football. Simmons, who is ranked as the #335 overall prospect and the #26 ATH in the recruiting class of 2024, will be on campus for Big Cat Weekend. A native of Alexander City, roughly an hour away from Auburn, Simmons is the #17 recruit out of the state of Alabama.
Though Simmons has no commitment date set, he told Jason Caldwell of Auburn Undercover that he plans to make his decision before school starts back in August, and he will choose between UCF, Arkansas, Liberty, West Virginia, and Auburn football.
According to his On3 Sports Recruiting profile, Simmons took only one official visit, and it was to Liberty late last month. He has visited Auburn the most, and was on campus several times this summer for camps with his high school team. Could it be a Big Cat Weekend commitment for Simmons? We’ll have to see at the end of the month.
