Though most Auburn football fans were happy with the news that Bryan Harsin was fired last season, there were some that became unhappy with the coach that replaced him. Hugh Freeze was the right person to take the job on the Plains, but some people could not stop looking at his past.
Despite the questions and the uproar about past discretions that were raised in the first few weeks after Freeze took the job, it has become clear that he was the best candidate to rebuild the Auburn football program and get the Tigers back into a position to win.
As a football coach, Freeze has made all the right moves so far to send the program in the right direction. From his public-facing events to recruiting to coaching, he has done a great job at proving that he is here to make the Tigers competitive again, and that he actively wants the challenge.
In the opinion of sports personality Paul Finebaum, Freeze has done a spectacular job so far in his role as Auburn football head coach, per On3:
"“It happened flawlessly, all the hue and cry about what he did or didn’t do or why he got fired, it was over in five seconds,” Finebaum said. “He handled his introduction brilliantly, I’ve seen Hugh a couple of times at events and he’s just very cool, you know Hugh very well. And I give him an A-plus-plus for the way he’s handled it, and not only that, the Auburn fans are just enthusiastic.”"
Of course Auburn fans are enthusiastic. After the last two seasons, fans simply want signs of life from the program. It’s clear that Freeze has already changed the culture surrounding the program, instilling a drive in his players and generating significant recruiting buzz all summer.
Not only does Hugh Freeze have a sense of pride about the program, he also has proven SEC experience, and could be the guy to lead the Tigers to victory over neighboring rivals Alabama and Georgia. Despite what you may think of Freeze’s personal life, he is consistently proving that driving Auburn football to success is his top priority.
