The first day of the 2023 SEC Media Days is in the books. Hosted this year in Nashville, TN, SEC Media Days see all 14 conference head coaches descend upon one venue to address the media and talk about their teams. For the first time, Hugh Freeze will represent Auburn football.
Today, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey addressed the crowd and spoke on a variety of hot topics in the college football world. He spoke about NIL, of course, and the continued struggle to regulate the policy, noting that federal action is necessary to fix things.
He also touched on the changes coming in the 2024 season, announcing that next year’s media days will be held in Dallas as the conference welcomes two new members in Texas and Oklahoma. Sankey also talked about the decision to do away with conference divisions, and the extensive talks to keep things “fair and balanced.”
After Sankey, three coaches took the spotlight— LSU’s Brian Kelly, Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher, and Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz. Tomorrow, four SEC coaches will take the stage: Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Mississippi State’s Zach Arnett, Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea, and Auburn’s Hugh Freeze.
Freeze will give his introduction as the new head coach of Auburn football, and it will be a big moment for him as he officially makes his return to the SEC. According to 247 Sports, a few things the Tigers’ head coach could be asked about include his past (obviously), clarity on the Jarquez Hunter suspension situation, the quarterback battle, the team’s overall progress in learning the new coaching style, and what the expectation is for the 2023 Auburn football team.
