Auburn football is on the precipice of a “huge” momentum-building recruiting flip, more specifically, Clanton Chilton County School five-star LB and current Georgia commit Demarcus Riddick, according to On3’s Joe Spears. Riddick was projected to the Plains by On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

“Currently Auburn holds 11 pledges in its 2024 class,” Spears prefaced before saying, “That group ranks as the No. 20 class in the country and the No. 11 class in the SEC. Flipping Riddick away from Georgia would be a huge win Hugh Freeze and his staff as they try build momentum with the 2024 group.”

Flipping Riddick from the two-time defending College Football Playoff National Champions would make for perhaps Hugh Freeze’s biggest recruiting victory yet. There’s still one move that’d propel the 2024 recruiting class to great heights and establish AU as a problem for everyone on the trail, though…

Hugh Freeze would have Auburn football at the top of the south with a Perry Thompson flip

Not to downplay landing Riddick — because Ron Roberts’ defense would get an immeasurable boost with such an explosive athlete in tow — but the recruiting coup de gras would only truly be complete with Perry Thompson similarly being flipped by Freeze’s coaching staff. Keeping a recruit in-state is one thing, but taking away a 5-star in-state receiver from Nick Saban would take the cake for recruiting victories.

Thompson will be at Big Cat Weekend starting July 29, and he’s been called the “most flippable” of any eyed Iron Bowl flip by Freeze.

“I was told months ago, by some good sources, that if Auburn was going to pull off an Iron Bowl flip that Perry was the most flippable compared to a Sterling Dixon, certainly compared to Ryan Williams,” said John Garcia Jr., national college recruiting analyst for Rivals (h/t AL.com).

Freeze’s first Big Cat Weekend could give AU all the recruiting momentum heading into a new era in East Central Alabama; though it should be noted that significant momentum is already being built with the impending Riddick flip.
