COMMITTING TODAY: Auburn football LB target Demarcus Riddick
It’s a big day for Auburn football on the recruiting trail. After a long recruiting battle against neighboring rivals and powerhouse programs Alabama and Georgia, the Tigers are keeping their fingers crossed that 5-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick chooses Auburn.
The in-state prospect has been committed to Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs since November of last year, but since that time both Alabama and Auburn have stepped up their recruitment of the Chilton County native. The former Auburn football staff was not involved with Riddick, but once head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff took over the linebacker became a top priority for the Tigers.
After multiple visits to both programs, Riddick has made his final decision and will reveal it today, his mother’s birthday.
For some time it has been widely anticipated that Riddick will flip from Georgia to one of the in-state schools, and that notion has been seemingly confirmed with the recent commitment of 5-star LB Justin Williams to Georgia.
Riddick is ranked as the #26 overall prospect and the #3 linebacker in the recruiting class of 2024 and he is the #3 player out of the state of Alabama. His high school coach Marvin Morton recently said that the decision Riddick makes today will be final, indicating that he will shut down his recruitment following the commitment today.
Following his visits to the Plains, Riddick has continued to emphasize the family environment he feels at Auburn, and that he loves everything about the school. He is also expected to be on campus this weekend for Big Cat.
Securing the 5-star linebacker would be a big win for Freeze and the coaching staff, and it would prove that Auburn football is actual recruiting competition for Alabama and Georgia again. Catch the commitment announcement of Demarcus Riddick at 4:00 p.m. central time, live from the Clanton Auditorium.
