Auburn football legend Cam Newton was recently heckled on camera by a few smart alecks at former NCAA kicker Donald De La Haye’s “1ON1” tour, responding to a criticism that the 2015 NFL MVP never won a Super Bowl by saying, “But we don’t got the same bank account,” and making a lewd gesture.

Cat Crave’s Dean Jones took exception to the way Newton was treated during the video, pleading for the Plains legend to be treated better; as he deserves.

“One could say Newton didn’t need to respond,” Jones prefaced before saying, “On the other hand, why should he keep quiet and let someone feel like they’ve got one up on such a famous figure just for a little bit of social media clout? What the future holds for Newton in terms of playing again seems pretty murky. However, the flamboyant Auburn product still deserves the utmost respect for everything he accomplished.”

Auburn football legend Cam Newton can elevate his stock by playing in the USFL

There’d be no better way to reconnect with the Auburn football fanbase and re-establish himself in pro football than Newton playing in the USFL, and more specifically, signing with the Birmingham Stallions. Alex McGough was just signed by the Green Bay Packers, and backup J’Mar Smith got a look from the Carolina Panthers, showing the viability of the Stallions to get Newton that last NFL opportunity. With the USFL producing countless NFL signings this offseason and more closely resembling the NFL than its spring football counterpart, the XFL, there’s no better springboard available to Newton or any other ex-pro.

Whether Newton would put himself in such a situation is unclear. QBs with fewer achievements and, arguably, less talent, have been signed to the NFL since Newton’s last NFL game, but it could be because they’re willing to accept a backup role that Superman hasn’t been willing to.
