Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live believes Auburn football is about to flip 5-star Foley wide receiver and current Alabama commit Perry Thompson from Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide coaching staff, tweeting out the opinion ahead of Big Cat Weekend on July 28.

“Let’s kick off this Big Cat Weekend with a big dog prediction… Can Auburn, Hugh Freeze and Marcus Davis flip five-star WR Perry Thompson? Man … it certainly seems like it,” Lee prefaced before saying, “And I think they will.” Following the Tigers’ commitment of Chilton County’s Demarcus Riddick, Rivals’ Caleb Jones said that there’s “as good a chance as ever” that Thompson will choose the Plains.

“With several visits to Auburn, the Tigers have slowly pulled closer in the recruiting race with Alabama for the talented wideout from Foley, Alabama,” Jones prefaced before saying, “His official visit last month seemingly put Auburn right there with the Tide and it appears that with each visit, the Tigers are inching closer to a flip. Could this weekend be the weekend? With Riddick now on board, it seems that it could be as good a chance as ever.”

Perry Thompson commitment would cement all-time Auburn football offseason for Hugh Freeze

Given how low the Auburn football program was when Hugh Freeze was hired as head coach last November, flipping a top linebacker from Georgia and a receiver from Alabama in the same week would cement this offseason as an all-time cycle for a Tigers coach.

Freeze having excitement around the program is one thing, but flipping Thompson will have meant that he was able to sell recruits on a vision with no on-field results to even back it up after back-to-back championships from UGA and a decade and a half of championship results in Tuscaloosa.

If/when Thompson joins the opposite side of the Iron Bowl rivalry, Freeze will have proven that the tide has turned in East Central Alabama, the Yellowhammer State as a whole, and across the south.
