Auburn has played but never beaten these 6 FBS teams
USF
USF was, once upon a time, a consistently successful football program. It’s been a while, with the Bulls being an also-ran in both football and basketball — although basketball gave Bruce Pearl’s Tigers troubles during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons to be fair — but back when, USF was a notable program on a national level.
2007 was one of the Bulls’ biggest seasons, and according to The Daily Stampede’s Jamie DeVriend, their victory over Auburn during Week 2 was the victory that helped set up the season that followed.
“Well, this is the big one,” DeVriend prefaced before saying, “Actually there ended up being four or five big ones in 2007, but in my opinion, this was the big one. Because if USF doesn’t beat Auburn 26-23 at Jordan-Hare Stadium on September 8, 2007, the games that follow aren’t nearly as important, nearly as crazy, or nearly as memorable. This game set everything up.”
AU still ended up 9-4, showing that USF didn’t beat a late-era Gene Chizik or Bryan Harsin-level team, but instead one from Tommy Tuberville’s Tigers tenure.
