Texas Tech
Now unlike Rice and SMU, Texas Tech is not any less likely to be scheduled by the Tigers due to being in the Lone Star State. Given AU’s recent and future home-and-home series with the Big Ten’s Penn State and the Pac-12’s Cal, the Big 12 getting on the Tigers’ slate is far from off the table.
Granted, that doesn’t mean that Auburn football is going to get a chance to avenge their lone loss to the Red Raiders in 1954 at the next chance. Still, though, Texas Tech feels like a team the television networks can get behind as the Big 12 looks to establish new pillars with Texas and Oklahoma leaving for the SEC in 2024.
Speaking of 2024, that’s when the College Football Playoff field expands to 12. Auburn and Texas Tech are two schools that will always be in the mix in their respective conferences, so definitely never say never when it comes to these two teams meeting in a rematch.
