Oklahoma

Finally, we have a school that Auburn football has the chance to beat within the coming seasons: 2024 SEC newcomer Oklahoma.

Eventual No. 1 overall NFL pick Baker Mayfield shredded the Tigers’ defense during the 2017 Sugar Bowl, going for 296 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and an additional 34 yards rushing. Joe Mixon, another NFL draft pick, went for 180 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Needless to say, AU didn’t stand much of a chance in the 35-19 drubbing in the Big Easy. The two teams’ matchup in the 1972 Sugar Bowl saw Pat Sullivan complete less than 50% of his passes and AU’s defense cede 439 rushing yards en route to a 40-22 final.

With the Sooners soon to be in the SEC, Auburn fans can witness the Tigers topple one of the sport’s undisputed blue bloods. Or Oklahoma can continue their winning ways, although it has to be noted that the inaugural matchup will be in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
