Auburn football career passing leader No. 5: Pat Sullivan

  • 6,534 passing yards
  • 54 passing touchdowns
  • 41 interceptions

Pat Sullivan is really only behind Newton when it comes to legendary Auburn quarterbacks, and like Superman Cam, the Birmingham native was a Heisman winner. Those two and Bo Jackson are the only Tigers to ever win the award. Per Auburn University’s official website, Sullivan has been nominated to the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and the National High School Hall of Fame, as well as a member of the College Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 1991.

Sullivan himself has talked about sports from a perspective looking beyond the short-term impact of sports.

“I’ve said it many, many times, and I believe it: What you get out of athletics is the relationships that last for a lifetime,” Sullivan once said (h/t Auburnundercover).

Sullivan certainly had that impact on Malzahn, who had nothing but good things to say about him following Sullivan’s death in 2019.

“I will forever be indebted to Coach Sullivan for helping bring me back to Auburn to serve as the head football coach,” Malzahn said. “He was a friend, mentor and a man of great character, who was beloved by many generations of Auburn fans.  Pat Sullivan is, and always will be, the definition of an Auburn Man.”
