Fourth-year Auburn football offensive guard Jeremiah Wright “could hold the key” to the Tigers’ offensive line seeing significant improvement during the 2023 season according to Auburnundercover’s Jason Caldwell.

“The more I see and hear about the offensive line, the more I believe it’s going to be a group that has a chance to be significantly improved from last year,” Caldwell prefaced before saying, “With the additions of a pair of transfers over the summer, the depth concerns have been alleviated somewhat. A guy like Jeremiah Wright could hold the key. If he can become a dominant player at guard, look out.”

Wright bounced back and forth between the offensive line and defensive line since arriving to the Plains in 2020. Because his debut came during the pandemic-stricken 2020 season and because he redshirted his first two seasons, Wright has four years of eligibility left given the extra COVID-19 year of eligibility and his six appearances in 2022.

Auburn football OL coach wouldn’t let Jeremiah Wright defect to DL

Auburn football offensive line coach Jake Thornton revealed that Tigers defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett tried to poach Wright — and that Garrett’s attempt was ultimately in vain because Thornton was never going to let that happen.

“Oh, I’m not letting him go,” Thornton said (h/t AL.com). “…I said, ‘No, he’s an offensive lineman.’ He’s going to be a huge, huge part of our offense, and he’s going to be somebody we’re going to build this unit around.”

Wright revealed his own plan as an AU offensive lineman: to become one of the greats in the offensive trenches.

“I talked, prayed with my mom and grandmom, and gone through everything and just felt in my heart that’s what I wanted to do — stay on the O-line and just get my footwork, technique, everything down,” Wright prefaced before saying, “I want to be one of the greats to do it.”

Luckily for Wright, it sounds like he has a position coach that realizes his potential. Good luck to SEC defensive linemen on Auburn’s schedule.
