It was a big weekend of recruiting results for the Auburn football program, and though the Tigers only picked up one of their two targets for the weekend, the momentum is still growing.
Saturday afternoon, 4-star cornerback Jalewis Solomon picked Auburn football over South Carolina, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Florida State. The Ellaville, GA, native is ranked as the #230 overall prospect and the #19 ATH in the recruiting class of 2024 and is the #30 recruit out of the Peach State.
Solomon has the ability to play on either side of the ball, hence his ATH classification, but is expected to play cornerback for coach Wesley McGriff on the Plains.
Many folks believed Solomon was set to commit to the Gamecocks this weekend, which was reflected in some fans’ reactions to the cornerback’s commitment:
The Tigers’ last-minute push during Big Cat Weekend seemed to be enough for Solomon, whose older brother Zykeivous Walker is currently an Auburn football defensive lineman. As for why he chose Auburn, Solomon gave a telling quote, per Auburn Undercover:
"“I’d love to play for Coach (Hugh) Freeze, like why not? He kind of made a point when we were talking to him, he’s — whenever he beat ‘Bama in 2012 — it’s like, man, that’s different. He was saying that whenever I get here he’s going to make me a big impact for this team and I feel wanted here.”"
With the addition of Jalewis Solomon, the Tigers have jumped up to #16 overall in the 247 Sports recruiting rankings, and #8 in the SEC with 15 commits. In the On3 rankings, the Tigers are now #14 overall and #7 in the SEC. Despite missing out on KJ Bolden, Auburn added a good one in Solomon and are continuing to build momentum on the recruiting trail.
