The Auburn football program has been on an upward trajectory since head coach Hugh Freeze took the job last November. While there was plenty of work for Freeze to do in all aspects of the program, his focus at the beginning was solidifying the Tigers’ recruiting class of 2023.

Of course, Freeze had very little time to do that ahead of early national signing day in December, but he managed to lock down a top 20 recruiting class. Arguably the most notable victory for Freeze in the class of 2023 was the flip of defensive lineman Keldric Faulk from Florida State.

Though the Bryan Harsin administration was unable to lock down the Highland Home prospect, Faulk’s decision to flip was an easy one after meeting the new staff and Coach Freeze.

Now, as the Tigers are working their way through fall camp, the true freshman continues to earn high praise from his coaches and teammates. Defensive coordinator Ron Roberts said that Faulk has played at the JACK position for most of the spring, and that he would definitely be an impact player for the Tigers, per Auburn Undercover.

His teammate, senior defensive lineman Marcus Harris, praised Faulk for his hard work during the offseason and time spent learning the Auburn football defense:

"“He has raw talent,” Harris said. “He’s just learning how to play within the defense. That’s a big thing he did during the offseason. He learned how to fit into the defense and not just freelance. In high school, a lot of dudes are just told, ‘do this.’ And, probably, his defense was built around him in high school.“Everything was based off of him. So, getting to college, he’s recognizing that it’s a team sport, and everybody’s got their job. Everybody’s got to be in their gap at the same time. That’s been a very big improvement for him, just understanding his role in the defense.”"

Faulk is not the only true freshman in the JACK room. There is also Brenton Williams from the
Tigers’ 2023 class, and several transfers that have made their way to the Plains during the offseason in Elijah McAlister, Jalen McLeod, and Stephen Sings.

The true freshman will definitely be battling for a starting job this September, but no matter who wins, the JACK position will be in capable hands.
