Auburn football running backs coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams called freshman running back Jeremiah Cobb a potential future “household name” — and in response, Auburn Rivals’ Brian Stultz relayed that of all people, the Tigers’ interim head coach for the last four games of the 2022 season should know what that would look like.

“Cadillac Williams knows a deep and talented running back room when he sees it,” Stultz prefaced before saying, “The Auburn coach should, as he was part of one 20 years ago when playing for the Tigers alongside Ronnie Brown, Brandon Jacobs, and Tre Smith. That is why when Williams tells you how excited he’s about this year’s backfield, everyone should listen.” Williams’ comments were as optimistic as prognostications come.

“I’m excited for this guy’s future,” Williams said. “I honestly think he will be one of those household names. I’ll tell you what, one of the things I’m most impressed about him is how tough he is. He don’t back down in pass pro. He’s a willing blocker.”

Second-year Auburn football running back high on Jeremiah Cobb’s potential

Cobb has the attention of anyone regularly working with the Auburn football running back room, including his peers. Second-year RB Damari Alston predicted that the Montgomery Catholic product would develop into an impact player on the Plains.

“Jeremiah is going to be a really good running back,” Alston prefaced before saying, “He’s a really good kid outside of football, too. He doesn’t talk much, but I get him to talk a lot. But he’s going to be really good, the way he hits the holes — he’s still getting a feel for it right now, but he’s going to be really good.”

Cobb, Alston, and Brian Battie all figure to play supplementary roles to third-year starter Jarquez Hunter. Having all four weapons could open up extra opportunities for all of them, though, with the variety of weaponry in the Tigers’ backfield conducive to catching defenses by surprise this season.
