The addition of Will Herring to Auburn football broadcasts as a sideline reporter — and Jason Campbell’s replacing of Stan White in the booth among a slew of other adjustments –will give the broadcasts a “different feel” in 2023 according to AL.com’s Mark Heim.

“The Auburn Sports Network will have a different feel this upcoming season,” Heim prefaced before saying, “In addition to Jason Campbell taking over as radio analyst, replacing Stan White after 22 seasons, the network is adding a little defense to its sideline reporting. Will Herring, a member of Auburn’s 2004 undefeated season, will share sideline reporter duties with former teammate Ronnie Brown. Paul Ellen returns to anchor the tailgate show, halftime report and post-game show, while Brad Law continues in his role as pre-game and post-game locker room host.” Andy Burcham told “The Final Drive” on WNSP-FM 105.5 on August 16 that the broadcasts “got some defense.”

“The running back will split time on the sideline with another member of the 2004 team, and we get some defense with Will Herring,” Burcham said.

Will Herring high on Hugh Freeze’s Auburn football hire: ‘Man of integrity’

Herring was always on board with the Hugh Freeze coaching hire for Auburn football; calling the Oxford, Mississippi native a “man of integrity” back in November even before the Tigers hired the 53-year-old.

“I feel like I’ve known Hugh for a year and a half,” Herring prefaced before saying, “Never met the man but I do know this, he’s a man of integrity. He loves his young men as men the same way Lac loved on our boys as young men, not as players. There’s coaches who only care about what the players have to offer to promote their careers. That’s not Lac, and that’s ain’t Hugh, either. Lac is assistant head coach day one. You can take that to the bank, if he will take the job.”

Freeze took the job a day after Herring said this. With a legend of the program in his corner, amongst many others, Freeze already has the narrative cornered from the inside.
