Auburn football fans react to Tiger’s first 2024 offensive line commit
The Auburn football program kicked off its season in style this weekend, sending the UMass Minutemen packing with a victory of 59-14 in the season opener. The Tigers showed massive improvement from last season, and they’re only getting started.
While yesterday’s focus was this year’s team and Hugh Freeze’s first game on the Plains, today the attention has turned back to recruiting. This afternoon, the Tigers picked up their first offensive line commit in the recruiting class of 2024.
DeAndre Carter, a native of Santa Ana, California, and the #1 inside offensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2024 committed to Auburn football over Texas and Michigan State. Carter is a 4-star athlete out of Mater Dei High School and the #55 payer in the class of 2024, a massive pickup for Coach Freeze and offensive line coach Jake Thornton.
Carter was able to make the cross-country trip to the Plains for Big Cat Weekend, and he told 247 Sports that after Perry Thompson’s commitment and experiencing the environment in Auburn, he was ready to make his decision:
"“Even before I flew back home, my family and I knew Auburn was the place for me and it was just a matter of when the best time to announce would be. This weekend was a big family get together and we decided it was the perfect time. Like I said, I’m very excited to be a Tiger and build on the great class they’re bringing in.”"
The IOL is the 18th commit to the Tigers’ 2024 recruiting class and is the third most highly ranked behind Perry Thompson and Demarcus Riddick.
