Former Auburn football quarterback Bo Nix threw his first career touchdown to his brother, Tez Johnson, an Oregon transfer from Troy, against Texas Tech in the first quarter of the Ducks’ September 9 battle with Texas Tech in Lubbock.

Nix and Johnson had connected three times for 41 yards in Week 1 in an 81-7 destruction of FCS Portland State, but they weren’t able to find the end zone. That all changed when Nix found Johnson on a slant from the Red Raiders’ 13-yard line.

The short-yardage play won’t make SportsCenter’s Top 10 for the day, but it will be forever etched in the memories of the Nix family; and any Ducks fan that got to revel in the play as well. And for that matter, anyone who can put aside hostility towards the Tigers QB and appreciate the wholesome moment.

Former Auburn football QB Bo Nix prefers Oregon to the Plains

As Nix revealed, he is joyous at Oregon in a way he never was in Auburn — whether it be from the pressure of being the son of Patrick Nix, or the questioning of why he chose to be the Tigers’ starter in the first place while on the Plains.

“This school has changed my life,” Nix said of Oregon (h/t AL.com). “This school just gave me an opportunity to be myself again and get out of the spotlight of, ‘You’re playing because your dad played here,’ or ‘You are only doing it because you are an Auburn fan’ or this and that. But now I can just go do it because I love playing quarterback.

“I love being around a group of guys, and love leading a group out there with a common mission to win. We were fortunate enough to do a lot of that last season but we came up short in some other times, so now, another reason you came back to have another try at it, and learn from what you did right, learn from what you did wrong and go out and fix it.”

Given the moment he just shared with his brother on Dan Lanning’s Ducks, that opinion is likely to be amplified.
