Just like they did in 2021, the Auburn football defense injured Texas A&M’s quarterback — with Aggies QB Conner Weigman injuring his left ankle on September 23; this during the two teams’ Week 4 SEC opener after a low hit from Jaylin Simpson on a blitz into the TAMU pocket in their own endzone.

Weigman was brought back to the locker room and was having trouble putting weight on his left leg. He was reportedly heard screaming in agony per the ESPN broadcast.

Back in 2021, it was Zach Calzada who injured his non-throwing shoulder in a game against the Tigers on November 6 that Texas A&M won 20-3. Calzada finished the season but would miss out on the entire 2022 season, undergoing season-ending surgery and applying for a medical redshirt on September 22 of last year. Coincidentally, it was that injury by AU that prevented Calzada from ever taking a snap under disgraced ex-head coach Bryan Harsin on the Plains.

Auburn football has its own quarterback issues during first half vs Texas A&M

While not suffering any unfortunate injuries in the first half of Week 4’s matchup against Texas A&M, Auburn football was not without its own issues under center in College Station. Payton Thorne completed just five of his 10 pass attempts and had -16 rushing yards due to four sacks by the Aggies’ defense.

While he did have a heroic fourth down conversion that allowed the Tigers to put up three points, he looked like someone who could be pulled for Robby Ashford at any time without much backlash from the Auburn family.
