The Auburn football program’s Week 4 opponent, Texas A&M, has lost quarterback Conner Weigman for the rest of the 2023 season after the Aggies’ 27-10 victory over the Tigers on September 23. Weigman was injured during an incomplete pass on third down with 4:42 left in the first half and Texas A&M up 6-3.

TexAgs.com’s Billy Liucci reported that the injury is expected to take three and a half months to heal, which rules out the remainder of the regular season and any potential bowl game the Aggies would make.

“Toughest of news for A&M football,” Liucci prefaced before saying, “Per everything I’ve heard since yesterday and from sources very close to situation, QB Conner Weigman’s foot injury is, in fact, a season-ender for the emerging SEC star. Weight-bearing bone and roughly a 3.5 month recovery.”

Texas A&M has ‘huge piece’ at QB that showed out against Auburn football in Week 4 Aggies win

On3’s Griffin McVeigh doesn’t see the sky falling following the loss of Weigman in the Texas A&M quarterback room considering the insurance policy known as Max Johnson — who dissected the Auburn football secondary to the tune of 7/11 passing, 123 passing yards, and two touchdowns in a little over a half of football.

“Johnson is one of the more experienced backups in the entire country, potentially being a huge piece for Texas A&M this year,” McVeigh prefaced before saying, “Most teams would have to panic if their starting quarterback was ruled out for the rest of the season with an injury. Fisher will be thankful for having Johnson on the roster and hopes the success can continue with him running the offense.”

Texas A&M may still be a factor in an admittedly underwhelming SEC West in 2023 with Johnson under center. With a 10-7 record as a starter and a 42:7 touchdown-interception ratio, Johnson would’ve been a good transfer portal get for anyone back when he left LSU in 2021; including AU, who grabbed his teammate Zach Calzada instead.
