What a weekend for the Auburn football program. The Tigers hosted the #1 team in the nation this past Saturday and nearly pulled off an incredible upset against the Georgia Bulldogs. Head coach Hugh Freeze and his team showed glimpses of what the program’s future will look like, and that future is bright.
But the on-field performance was not the only important aspect of the Tigers’ schedule this weekend. Over 50 recruits made their way to the Plains to witness the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, including nine 5-star prospects from the classes of 2024 and 2025 and plenty more 4-stars. The potential Auburn Tigers got to see a close game, but also witnessed a packed Jordan-Hare Stadium and the best atmosphere in college football.
4-star linebacker Joseph Phillips, who committed to Auburn football back in June, took his official visit this weekend. Phillips noted that he did not expect it to be a game, but seeing the Tigers’ coaches in action and the potential for greatness cemented his desire to play in orange and blue, per Auburn Rivals:
"“When you see a team that’s fighting, not giving up and playing the whole game, it’s crazy,” Phillips said. “I don’t see why you would want to go anywhere else. You got a chance to come in and play. You see what the coaches are doing with the players they already got now. Just imagine when you get 3-4-5 stars playing positions, it’s gonna be a different feel.”"
We all know that it’s going to take time for Auburn football to build back up to where the program belongs, but so does Freeze, and he’s doing his best to fast-track the Tigers to consistent success. Auburn may not have beaten Georgia this year, but the next time the Dawgs walk into Jordan-Hare Stadium it could be a very different story.
