Everyone an option to play at key Auburn football position group
Throughout the first few games of this season, the Auburn football team has shown that they have the run game on lock. Between Jarquez Hunter, Damari Alston, Jeremiah Cobb, and Brian Battie, the Tigers have plenty of capable options at the running back position.
On the flip side, the Tigers still have not managed to figure out the passing game. There have been positives here and there, but on the whole, the offense has been plagued with bad routes, dropped balls, and lost one-on-ones.
Only two Auburn football players have more than eight receptions, and one of those two players is tight end Rivaldo Fairweather. Also in the Top 5 pass catchers is running back Brian Battie with six receptions. There has been a significant lack of production from the Tigers’ wide receivers all season long.
Now that Ja’Varrius Johnson is still out dealing with injury, could this weekend be a breakout game for some of the receivers we haven’t seen this season? According to Auburn Undercover, sophomore wide receivers Camden Brown and Omari Kelly could get involved in Baton Rouge, and so could Ohio State transfer Caleb Burton:
"“They all have a shot,” Freeze said. “But you gotta produce… It’s just part of… just keep competing. But at some point, we have to have production at whatever position it is. I’m excited to see our kids compete this week and see some guys hopefully make some plays.”"
With a tough road test ahead, the Tigers are in desperate need of a receiver to step up. Head coach Hugh Freeze said that several of quarterback Payton Thorne’s incompletions against Georgia should have been caught, and the Tigers need playmakers that can win those battles.
Auburn football versus LSU will kickoff at 6:00 p.m. central time from Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge this Saturday.
