Auburn football 4-star IOL DeAndre Carter, a Mater Dei product from Santa Ana, California, has Texas hot on his trail — and is “chipping away” at Carter’s commitment to the Plains in the hopes for a flip according to Hook’em Headlines’ Andrew Miller.

“Flood and the Longhorns are also prioritizing the recruitment of the highly touted four-star Mater Dei interior offensive lineman, and Auburn Tigers commit DeAndre Carter,” Miller prefaced before saying, “Despite being head coach Hugh Freeze and Auburn’s only offensive line commit in the Tigers’ 2024 class, Texas is still chipping away at Carter’s pledge this fall.”

Miller relayed that Carter and his parents have been given “something to think about” from Texas’s 40-14 domination of Kansas on September 30 when the Jayhawks were ranked No. 24 in the AP poll.

“Texas is giving Carter something to think about after he made a successful official visit to Austin for the Longhorns’ win over the No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks on Sep. 30,” Miller wrote. “Carter and his parents had a great experience during his first trip to Texas since his visit to Austin for the first Junior Day of the 2023 offseason on Jan. 21.”

Auburn football losing momentum with urgency on the backburner

Within the Auburn football fanbase, there’s been an accepted resignation to defeat since the opening of SEC play — arguably initiated by Hugh Freeze himself when he tempered expectations for the Tigers ahead of their three-game stretch against Texas A&M, Georgia, and LSU.

It’s good not to get hopes up, but there are evidently consequences to being so open about not having expectations: recruits will lose their confidence that the program can be a winner while they’re there, swayed by the results and scared off after being swayed by a team that is winning more, or at least isn’t accepting defeat as inevitable.

Jalewis Solomon was the first, and it appears that Carter could be next.
